Youth Day rescheduled for Jan. 23

Lumpkin County Sheriff Office’s Youth Day has been postponed to Saturday, January 23rd. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Yahoola Creek Park. It will consist of skeet-shooting, hunter safety courses, fire safety course and squirrel hunting. Lunch will be provided and all kids age 6-18 are invited. Mandatory applications for participation are currently available at the sheriff’s office or any local school. Children do not need to bring anything other than their application since all materials and food will be provided. For more information contact Sheriff Jarrard at 706-864-0414 ext. 511.

Chestatee Regional Hospital Welcomes It’s New Years Baby. Chestatee Regional Hospital’s Maternity Services first new arrival in 2010 was a 6 pound boy!

Dallas David Watkins was born at 5:28 PM to proud parent, Stephanie Watkins. The Maternity Services Unit provided Dallas and his mom with a gift basket. Congrats Watkins Family!

Old Fashioned Christmas

Dahlonega’s Old Fashioned Christmas is a month-long celebration set into motion on Friday, November 27, 2009 with the Lighting of the Square. A real home-town parade officially bringing Santa to town occurs on Saturday, December 5th.

Plenty of other festive holiday events continue almost daily throughout December until after New Year’s with caroling, entertainment, wine sampling, live theater Christmas events.

Hemlock Fest - Help Save the Trees!

HemlockFest is an annual benefit music festival, held on November 6-9, 2009, to increase public awareness and generate funds to help save the Eastern and Carolina hemlock trees. Money raised will be used for support of the Georgia laboratories rearing adelgid-devouring beetles, education and research on the HWA problem, and assisting businesses and homeowners to protect hemlocks on their private property. Trick-or-Treating on The Square

Bring your little gouls and goblins to the Dahlonega Square on All Hallows Eve. There will be fun for everyone and the children will get to trick-or-treat in a safe environment. Come visit the shops on the square that will be open. Join in the fun and celebration of the season. Roads will be closed after 5:00 pm. 4th Annual Halloween Chili Cook Off

Saturday October 31, 2009 Join NOA and the Dahlonega - Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce at Hancock Park in Historic Dahlonega for the 4th Annual Chili Halloween Cook-off. The event runs from 11 am until 2 pm. Cooks are welcome to arrive at 10 am to set up their table. Cook’s entry fee is only $25. The Open Class is available for individual or non-restaurant teams and the Professional Class is open to professional chefs and/or restaurant teams. Rain or Shine. The Gold Rush is Coming…

Gold Rush Days are held the third weekend in October (the 17th and 18th for 2009), when thousands come to see fall colors peaking and celebrate Dahlonega’s 1828 discovery of gold. Over 300 art and craft exhibitors gather around the Public Square and Historic District in support of this annual event, and it is estimated that a crowd of over 200,000 visit over the weekend to join in the fun and excitement! 7th Annual Kiwanis Talent Show

Kiwanis of Lumpkin County will be hosting the 7th Annual Talent Showcase on Saturday, October 3, 2009 beginning at 7PM at The Historic Holly Theater. It will feature performing and fine art talent from local kids and adults. As part of our local fundraising efforts, 100% of the net proceeds from the LC Kiwanis Talent Showcase is donated back to charities and projects that serve the local Lumpkin community and its’ children.
