Farmer’s Market Opening

The Dahlonega Farmer’s Market is opening May 1st. It will be open every Saturday and Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until October 30th at Hancock Park in downtown Dahlonega. Not only will you find locally grown fruits and vegetables but you can find some sweet and savory jams, jellies and other home-made items that will be for sale. (more…)

We’ll Miss Ranger Open House

One of the most exciting events my family and friends from all over enjoy is the Ranger Open House which I discovered last night from one of the Camp Merrill NCO’s has been cancelled. Then when I opened my Nugget this afternoon I see the same is confirmed. The bridge leading to Mosley Airfield has been removed due to age and/or weight requirements. If you have been to the event you know the bridge as it is the only way to get to the airfield from the barracks. The Ranger Run is still on. (more…)

Bear on the Square - 2010

Check out what is going on this weekend in Dahlonega. It is our Bear on the Square - Bluegrass festival. Come enjoy the vendors, music and food Saturday and Sunday in Downtown Dahlonega’s Square. This celebration marks the anniversary of a time almost 20 years ago when a bear came into the square and had to be escorted out of town. Too many activities to list. We went this morning and the weather was perfect and the children had a blast. Come visit Dahlonega!

Hey Everyone! From the co-team captain of the Anita Memorial Kennison Team for the Lumpkin County Relay For Life 2010. She was a beautiful, talented woman who left this earth way too early. Our Event takes place this Friday, March 26th starting at 7 PM with our Survivor Lap! The event will be taking place at the NGCSU Recreation Center. Bear on the Square Live Country Auction

The 14th Annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival’s Live Country Auction, which will be held Friday, April 16, will have an earlier starting time this year. Festival officials also announced that the highly-popular opening night event has obtained a sponsor. The event will take place in the MainStage Tent in Dahlonega’s Hancock Park adjacent to the Historic Public Square.

3rd Annual Pie Baking Contest

The 3rd Annual Pie Baking Contest and Pie Tasting Event will take place on May 29, 2010 at the Dahlonega Hancock Park/Catholic Center (one block behind Brad Walker Pottery) in Dahlonega, GA. Tasting begins at 11AM and will continue until 2PM. Enter your best pie, either a savory or dessert pie (deadline for registration is May 10) or plan to attend the even and sample a wide selection from the best cooks in the area.

Youth Day rescheduled for Jan. 23

Lumpkin County Sheriff Office’s Youth Day has been postponed to Saturday, January 23rd. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Yahoola Creek Park. It will consist of skeet-shooting, hunter safety courses, fire safety course and squirrel hunting. Lunch will be provided and all kids age 6-18 are invited. Mandatory applications for participation are currently available at the sheriff’s office or any local school. Children do not need to bring anything other than their application since all materials and food will be provided. For more information contact Sheriff Jarrard at 706-864-0414 ext. 511.
